In my artwork, I explore the strengths within human beings by picturing the body and it’s position. My drawing style and shapes are influenced by elements of nature, such as rocks and especially a seaweed called “mermaid’s hair”. I seek a realistic image and a structured surface at the same time in order to speak to the spectator through both vision and sense of touch. My recent work is dominated by the body theme and my projects have become more personal and story telling. Drawing a human being means a neverending exploration where the body and the mind are one. To me, it is important to show serious subjects in a sensitive and beautiful way because it brings out the profound contradictions related to them. I believe that decorativity can be artistic and art can be decorative.
My technique is a mix of charcoal, dry pastel, acrylic and ink. I call it drawing because I always use paper as a base. I have gained a degree of Master of Arts in Fine Art in Académie royale des Beaux-Arts of Brussels.
